Coach Ross – Kids & Gi Coach

Coach Ross brings a no-nonsense, pressure-based approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, focused on discipline, consistency, and real skill development. His coaching philosophy is built around hard work, attention to detail, and earning progress, not shortcuts.

With a background in martial arts, including karate, kickboxing, and boxing, Ross values fundamentals, timing, and composure under pressure. His experience across striking and grappling shapes a practical, well-rounded understanding of combat, with plans to further sharpen his striking skills following recovery from a serious knee injury.

Before jiu-jitsu, Ross played rugby union and league at county district level, developing the physical resilience, work ethic, and mental toughness that now define his approach on the mats. Years immersed in strength & conditioning and high-intensity training influence how he develops athletes, building bodies and minds capable of sustained effort.

As a coach, Ross focuses on forging strong habits and strong character. Sessions are structured, demanding, and purposeful, with an emphasis on accountability, composure, and growth under pressure. He takes pride in helping students, especially children - become confident, disciplined, and resilient individuals both on and off the mats.

Joseph Couch is a purple belt under Neil Williams at CTC (Combat Training Centre).
He has multiple gold medals namely in All Stars and Welsh Nationals in both Gi and NoGi.
Although he enjoys both Gi and NoGi he prefers NoGi as he’s not a fan of wearing pyjamas.

He has played multiple sports at a high level including swimming, squash and rugby.
Joseph has a long history of gym training, strength and conditioning and coaching different sports, he is a level 3 qualified personal trainer and was a P.E. teacher for 4 years so has plenty of experience in coaching.

Joseph’s favourite aspects of Jiujitsu is teaching someone a new move and then seeing them pull it off. He loves how effective Jiu-Jitsu is, as well as the fact that it’s both a fun and challenging workout mentally as well as physically. Everyone should give it a try!

Very warm and welcoming as soon as I walked in the door. Lovely environment and great people. The teaching is spot on, it catered to all levels and abilities and was very informative, easy to follow and fun. If you’re looking to start jiujitsu and are near the Caerphilly area I highly recommend going to Forge
